Clown
Owl - Paper Piecing Project Tutorial

In
this tutorial I used an electronic cutter to cut out the pattern but
if you don't have one you could cut it out by hand.
First I selected the coloured papers that I wanted to use and I printed
out the reference sheet to help me keep the pattern pieces organized.
In
my electronic cutter software I opened the Clown Owl file. I wanted
to create 3 owls in three different sizes so in the software I copied
the design 3 times and resized accordingly.

First I cut the eyes. You can see the 3 different sizes in these photos.

Then I cut the hat, pants and flower center.

As I cut out the pieces I placed them on the reference sheet to keep
them organized. For the larger and smaller owl, I made a pile off to
the side for each design.

Next I cut out the pants, hat and flower center again but in a different
patterned paper.

In the center of this photo is my pile for the large owl and to the
right of it my pile for the small owl.

Next I cut out the bodies, legs and wings in medium brown. I also did
this in a lighter brown and plan to mix and match the wing colours and
body colours.

Next I cut out the pupils. I did a few extra in case some of them didn't
cut well.

And finally I cut the nose and flower. Now I have all of the pieces
ready and all I have to do is glue them together.

Here are all of the pieces for my medium sized owl.

I applied some glue dots to the pants and adhered them to the body.

Next I attached the eyes, pupils and nose. Tweasers are very helpful
when attaching small pieces.

Using a glue pen I applied some glue to the edge of a wing and adhered
it to the back of the body.

I did the same thing with the legs.

I adhered the flower center to the flower and then applied some glue
to the bottom part of the stem and adhered it to the back of the hat.
Then I applied some glue to the hat brim and attached it to the hat.
Cutting and attaching the brim isn't necessary but I included in case
you want to make the hat in 2 colours.

Finally I applied some glue to the brim of the hat and adhered it to
the owl. My project is complete and I have an adorable owl that I could
use to make a card, scrapbook page or any other fun craft.

It's a great time saver to make several owls at once. I wanted to try
them in different sizes. The large owl is 7" in height but it is
hard to tell in this photo. I also decided to put pockets on the pants
of the larger owl.

Here you can see by the size of my hand how large the big owl is.

Here is an example of the Clown Owl Greeting card pattern. The owl stands
on his little feet, too cute! This greeting cards pattern is included
as part of the files that you receive with the Clown Owl Paper Piecing
pattern.
