Valentine
Ballerina - Paper Piecing Project Tutorial
In
this tutorial I used an electronic cutter to cut out the pattern but
if you don't have one you could cut it out by hand.
First I selected the coloured papers that I wanted to use and I printed
out the reference sheet to help me keep the pattern pieces organized.

In
my electronic cutter software I opened the Valentine Ballerina file
and selected the body, eyes, nose and mouth to cut out from the cream
paper. The other option was to cut the eyes, nose and mouth from black
paper but I thought of an easy way to save from having to use black.
I'll show you that later in the tutorial.

Using a knife I removed the cut pieces from the cutting mat and placed
them on the reference sheet.

I taped the reference sheet to my table so that if I accidentally nudged
it, it wouldn't go flying off my desk.

I used a black marker to colour the eyes, nose and mouth that I cut
from the cream paper. This saved some time so that I didn't have to
cut out from a black piece of card stock.

Next I cut the dark pink pieces.

I removed them from the cutting mat and placed them on the reference
sheet.

Then I cut the hair.

And finally I cut the light pink.

1. From the piece of cream paper that I cut the body and facial feature
out of, I made a little template so that I could position the eyes,
nose and mouth correctly on the face.
2 . I used a pencil to mark where the features should be glued.

I used a glue pen overtop the pencil marks. This glue is permanent when
wet and repositionable when dry. So I let the glue dry for a bit before
I attached the eyes, nose and mouth. That way if I didn't like the placement
I could remove the piece and try again.

As the glue was drying, I adhered the pink dress to the body.

Now that the glue is dry I adhered the facial features to the head.

Next I glued on the hair.

Then I glued on the rest of the pieces. I would recommend having a pair
of tweasers on hand as they are very helpful when placing the small
pieces.

I used chalk and a Q-tip to give her rosy cheeks.

Then I added a gem to the wand. My project is complete and I have an
adorable little ballerina that I could use to make a card, scrapbook
page or any other fun craft.
It would be fun to do this project again and use different hair and
skin colours. As well, maybe instead of the hearts on her dress you
could cut the dress from a pretty designer paper.
